This is part of my contribution to the project: “Swifts – Art Project for Synesthetic Perception of Migratory Species” initiated by Ninghui Xiong/Beijing in 2024. The project included synesthetic art approaches from all regions of the world. The outcome was fist exhibited in Alcalá la Real/Spain in 2025.

Graphics inspired by watching swifts move with related bird calls and sound of wind turbulences

The graphics show line agglomerations inspired by the groups of swifts flying past my window as if they would touch it (which never happens). Besides the sharp bird calls, the noise of wind turbulences is clearly audible in close distance. Sound and flight match to the endless movement curves that the birds seem to draw in the sky. Due to the high speed, Doppler effects modify the birdcalls. Thus, even the sound refers to the fast movement of the birds.

The graphics and the title include slight references to Giacomo Balla‘s painting Automobile Speed + Light +Noise.
